What is Structural Foam?
It is a unique, one step process which combines inert gas (nitrogen) and a thermoplastic resin, injected together to give a rigid plastic part.

Why choose Structural Foam as your alternative?
Consider structural foam when you want a lightweight product with superior strength-to-weight performance. Structural foam molded parts have two to five times better strength-to-weight ratio than metal parts. Our structural foam products are recognized throughout the industry as having extremely versatile physical properties.
The process can produce either small, intricate consumer items or large, lightweight commercial products with superior dimensional stability. The value of this technology is paramount when you want tough molded components with:
- Varying wall thickness
- Increased strength-to-weight ratios
- Lower tool costs
- Increased production capacities
- Stress and warp free structure
- Good modulus
- Ultraviolet resistance
As a pioneer and technology leader in this process, HORIZON PLASTICS enthusiastically offers a team of seasoned engineers who will gladly offer assistance in your product development. We specialize in:
- Tooling recommendations (prototype or production)
- Part configuration and moldability
- Mold design and trouble shooting
- Cost reduction, either by method of production or design of product
What is Structural Web?
HORIZON PLASTICS has perfected a new technology known as "Structural Web" - parts molded using this know-how do not have the typical swirl-pattern of Structural Foam. The part surfaces are smooth and uniform, similar to conventional injection moldings, without the sink marks.
HORIZON PLASTICS has one of the largest number of multi-nozzle injection molding machines in any one manufacturing location. We are well positioned to service high volume production runs utilizing multiple mold set-ups. All utility equipment is backed up with alternate equipment to ensure continuity of supply.
When should you call HORIZON PLASTICS?
When you find that markets demand any of the following, give HORIZON PLASTICS a call:
- The ability to mold very large, heavy duty parts that are not feasibly produced through other processes at similar costs.
- Molded parts that must be free of sink marks, stresses, and warping common to heavy walled, solid parts molded by traditional injection processes.
- The stiffness and rigidity of three to four times that of parts molded by standard injection technology (of equal weight)
- Varying wall thickness
throughout the part ( a common limitation of standard injection moldings)
- Adaptability to common hardware (screws, staples, hinges, etc.)
- Use of virgin or recycled resins adding market value to products.
